1: the heavy part
Ideally, what will your life look like on New Year’s Day 2004?
Ideally I'll have a job and be seriously looking into grad schools, and be gigging regularly.

Have your early-to-mid ‘20s been like you imagined? Why or why not?
Yes and no. I expected to be in biology, and have and go to grad school, etc. I'm in biology, but don't plan on continuing with it. I'm finally starting to be true to myself, which is a great feeling. Hard, but rewarding.

Which was the best year, for you, of the aforementioned early-to-mid ‘20s?
The last two years have been fun, playing in 2 bands, seeing the United States by car, living with a wonderful girl. Jobs come and go, but I can't complain about the rest.

Which was the best year, you wise, of your life?
I'm happier and more aware of who I am and where I'm going now than I ever have been before. Ignorance can be bliss, but the real thing is so much better.

Compare those two years? How were they different? How were they the same?
They overlap, I guess.

You lived in Los Angeles for a while... How was that?
LA was useless but novel. The best part wast driving across the country and back. Memphis was amazing, as was San Francisco. The scenerey may have been the best part, though. I think it's something everyone should do at least once. I can't imagine living the rest of my life without having done it.

Anywhere else you might want to live?
England. I've always wanted to live there and now I may be considering grad school there. Naturally.

Why is music such an important part of your life?
I grew up with it. It makes up for lacking social grace and everything that makes you "popular" as a kid. It's beautiful and pure when it's done right. There's some sort of connection which can't be explained. I don't mean to get all spiritual, but I can't help it.

2: the not-heavy part
Describe a good night out on the town...
A good band, good friends, or both.

And a good night in the apartment, describe that, too.
Just lazing around with Molly. Sometimes there's nothing better.

What have you been listening to?
I've been trying to buy new stuff like The Coral, as well as stuff that I don't usually get, like The Roots and Common. I've also been listening to that In th beginning there was rhythm... compilation, Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here and various other stuff I've gotten recently. As well as Doves, Super Furry Animals, Led Zeppelin, and everything else.

Was hast you been been reading?
Short Fiction of the Masters (due to lack of exposure to 'classics') and Mojo, to which I now have a subscription.

What have you been watching on TV?
Don't have cable so whatever will come in on the antenna.

Seen any movies lately? What did you think?
Not in the past month or so, so I don't know.

3: the cocktail party
So you’re having a cocktail party: list five A-list guests, other than Jesus, me and your friends...
I'd be too shy and dumbfounded to actually carry on a conversation with anyone I really admire (not including people I already know well and talk to on a regular basis), so I really couldn't say. I prefer to keep those people in their own world. I want to absorb as much music, art, literature as I can in my life, but I have no need to speak with the artists.

What drinks will you serve?
Some sort of beer, good liquor, etc. Nothing fancy.

What will be in the stereo?
Mix CDs made for the party by me.

Conversation topics will include…
I guess my lack of special guests makes conversation topics nothing out of the ordinary.

How will the evening end?
Most likely passing out with dreams of Indian buffet for the next day. One day I may be too old for the passing out part, but no time soon.
